What Entails To Professional Growth Plan For Principals

By Helen Murray

There are many important roles to be played by different stakeholders in learning institutions, but none is more important than ensuring that things are running as they should. The principal is the chief administrator in the school and is also the educational leader. He or she is charged with a multitude of responsibilities all geared to ensuring that normal operations run in the school without any hindrances. To be able to do this, they need the help of a system usually referred to as a professional growth plan for principals that helps them stay in focus.

Their leadership is normally focused on several things. Number one involves the supervision of instructions. Most principals do this by simply going around different classrooms and assessing classroom interactions between teachers and students. If ever they notice something that is in a mess, then they liaise with the teachers to help improve the situation. They also monitor how instructions are issued out to students and how they are implemented.

It is also their duty to ensure that all staff are in check. They ought to supervise all staff within the school and ensure that they are doing what is right. Apart from supervision, they are also charged with the responsibility of motivating both the teachers and other staff into giving better performance.

Every child or student for that matter needs an environment that is conducive enough for them to get to learn. For instance, all the essential resources should be predisposed to the student. Another vital thing is the curriculum. Improvements need to be done every once in a while so that it best caters to the learning needs for each and every student.

In the education system, there are two activities that play an equal role in ensuring that the student grows into a holistic individual. They include curricular and extra-curricular activities. Curricular activities include things like examinations, evaluations, and guidance programs among others whereas extra-curricular activities include debating, excursions, games, and sports just to mention a few. All these activities need supervision and it is the work of principal to ensure that they are both given equal importance.

They have the responsibility of instilling a culture of discipline in the school. This can be done through providing guidance on how the students are supposed to conduct themselves while in school and also on the outside world. They are also responsible for setting up rules and regulations as well as consequences if ever such rules are broken. Common punishments that come with going against the rules include detention, suspension, and in worst case scenarios expulsions.

Hard work is important and it forms the basis of any successful person. This should be a constant reminder for the students and they should also be encouraged to pursue their dreams. All the necessary assistance should be provided for each student without fail and it is the responsibility of the head to see to this.

It is important that the head gets to focus his or her leadership on the above mentioned points and work closely with the teachers towards creating the perfect learning environment.
